We offer personalized training for adults (18+) that fits your schedule and specialize in the Filipino Martial Art of Taboada Balintawak Cuentada. A single-stick, small blade, and empty-hand self-defense system.
At Stick Fighting Toronto, we primarily promote and teach Taboada Balintawak Cuentada, a Filipino Martial Art.
Typically, martial arts are taught empty-hand first, weapons later – usually after the attainment of a black belt. However, few martial arts students actually earn their black belt, so they never learn how to use traditional weapons.
Filipino Martial Arts flips the switch, beginning with weapons and then graduating to empty hands.
Using a single stick, Taboada Balintawak is a close-quarters fighting system developed for the streets of Cebu City, Philippines, making it a practical tool for modern urbanites living in Toronto and similar city centers.
The concepts and techniques that we develop with the stick in Balintawak can be effective regardless of whether we are using a stick, a blade, or empty hands.
Balintawak was originally taught in person, one-on-one, or in very small groups. It’s how it was traditionally taught, and it’s how we have chosen to teach it now. Come experience the advantage for yourself.
Online learning is proving to be an effective learning platform. Our instructors are able to break down concepts into manageable pieces, making even the most technical components achievable.
